Reading My Name

Thanks to Callista for hosting the challenge!

Rules: Read at least 2 books written by an author, or feature a main character, with your name, be it your first, middle, last, nickname, or online name. Variations are also acceptable. For example, my name is Christina: Christine, Christie, Chris, Kristina, Cristina, etc.

My list (Books in RED are on more than one list/alternate list):

  • Night Life by Elizabeth Guest — Character: Christine Day {9 Feb 08} (REVIEW)
  • The Inconvenient Duchess by Christine Merrill {3 Apr 08} (REVIEW)

I thought this was an interesting challenge. Definitely a challenge in the sense that, if you couldn’t find an author with a similar name, it could be a real chore finding a book with a character with your name. I lucked out in both cases. I already had two Christine Merrill books in my TBR. If I had to, I would have read both. But just before I signed up for the challenge, I purchased a book that just happened to feature a character by the name of Christine.

Of the two books, I liked The Inconvenient Duchess by Christine Merrill best. It’s a Regency, which I enjoy. Night Life by Elizabeth Guest (a paranormal) has some great story concepts, but it’s not a keeper.

I would be interested in joining the challenge next year. Two books is a reasonable, and achievable, goal. I will save the other Christine Merrill book, so I’ll have at least one book on hand, and keep a look out for other “Christinas”.

  1. Try Kristina Cook. She writes Regency set historicals. Coincidentally she and Christina Merrill are both friends of mine and I’ve read both their books. If you like CM, I think you’ll like KC too. 🙂 Oh, and Kristina Cook has some books coming out under Kristi Astor too.
I also recommend Chris Marie Green. She has an urban fantasy vampire series going. I haven’t read it, but I liked her books for Bombshell. She’s still writing romances for Harlequin too–but that might be under Crystal…
    Good Luck!!

  2. Thanks for the recommendations, Lori.

A co-worker gave me Christine Feehan’s Dark Prince. I haven’t read it yet. The jury’s still out on vampires — which is funny, since I loved ANGEL and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen of MOONLIGHT. I’m partial to shape-shifters, it seems (and I’m not just saying that ;-)). I suppose if Ms. Feehan’s Carpathians don’t work out for me, something else of might.

  3. This is a cool challenge. I might give this one a try, but first I must find a lead character and or author with my name.

  4. Brie,

That’s ok. She’ll probably host it again next year. Gives you a chance to do some research. 🙂 .
