June

June was my best reading month yet. I took a week off for Memorial Day, so the first five days of the month were relaxing and book-filled.   The first book I read was Magic Slays, which took me less than a day to read.  I was off to a good start.  It also helped that I managed to pick books that I had a hard time putting down.  One such book was an unexpected read:  Red Heat.  When it arrived, I had intended only to read the first chapter — and immediately list it on Paperback Swap if it turned out I wasn’t interested in the book beyond the cover.  I ended up putting aside my current read because I was so caught up with the story!

I managed to read two non-fantasy books this month.  I tried to squeeze in a historical romance, but that was the book that got displaced by Red Heat, and I didn’t feel like picking it up again.  I will continue to make the effort this summer to read non-fantasy books.  I have a growing stack of historical romances that caught my eye, plus the mystery series, and contemporaries.  I want to get back in the habit of varying the type of book during the month before I get burnt out on paranormal and fantasy books.

I’m working on a post listing my favorite books for the first half of the year, and I hope to get more than two reviews up this month.  I have a feeling most of them will be in the Three Reasons Review format.

I completed the New Author Challenge this month.  My goal was 15 new-to-me authors.  I never expected to read that many in the first 6 months!  Even though I met my goal, I’ll still be reading new-to-me authors.  It will be interesting to see how many more I’ll read by the end of the year.

Books Read:

Note: “Goodreads” means the book fit one or more of the challenges hosted by the various groups I joined. The link is to my tracking post on that site. “Personal” means the book fit one or more of the challenges I’m doing for myself (not hosted somewhere else). The link is to the master list under the “2011” tab.

Audiobooks:

Note: I will continue to count audiobooks toward “total pages read”, using the physical book’s page count. If I own a copy, the page number will be the page the story ends on (not counting any excepts, author’s notes, etc.). If I don’t, I will get the page number from a on-line source (Amazon, Goodreads, etc). Unless otherwise noted, the audiobooks count toward the two audiobook challenges only.
