Spotlight On. . .Final Sentence by Daryl Wood Gerber

blogrss

Inspired by the many weekly memes about books.

~~ & ~~

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these.  I wanted to get back into doing them regulary, but I couldn’t decide what book to feature.  I was almost at the point of just featuring the next Philippa Carr book when I thought, “cozy mysteries!”.

I’d been in the Barnes & Nobles recently, looking for nothing specific, when I went a little spend-happy in the Mystery section.  I’ve also got a few in ebook form as well, so I could feature one a month for at least a year without featuring the next book any series.

I chose Final Sentence to be the first of the Spotlight On re-launch for several reasons: 1) the pink of the background (I love pink); 2)  the adorable kitten; and 3) the subtle hit-tip to other cozy mystery books from the same publisher.

Along the bottom of the book cover. there are four (almost five) books with their covers facing out.  At the store, I’d recognized the book cover on the far left side.  When I checked, I found out I’d been correct.  It was the cover of one of Krista Davis’ Domestic Diva books: The Diva Runs out of Thyme, the 1st in that series, which I’ve read.  I discovered that the next three books in the picture were from the Cheese Shop Mystery series by Avery Aames, a pen-name of Daryl Wood Gerber.  The far-right book was a little hard to figure out (obviously), but I got lucky, and I’m pretty sure I’m right.

I went to Cozy Mystery.com and just looked around.  At that point, I didn’t know that the three middle books were part of the Cheese Shop series.  I discovered it because I decided to go alphabetically through the authors and Avery Aames was the first on the list, with her other pen name listed.  But I still wasn’t sure about the last book in the picture.  After studying it for a few minutes, it started to feel vaguely familiar.  I thought it might be a book from one of the other authors I bought on that trip.  Sure enough, the second book in Lorna Barrett’s Booktown Mystery series, Bookmarked for Death, has a purple spine.

Mystery solved! 😉

Thinking about it, it makes sense that a cookbook store might also sell culinary-themed and book-themed cozy mysteries (add in the sly wink  to the author’s other series, too).

So, there you have it.  The drawn-out, crazy reason I picked the book. 🙂
