Monthly Update – September

September

As I mentioned in August update, I’ll be participating in the Read-a-thon this month. I’ve got a list of books already pick out.

  • My Favorite Witch (Lisa Plumley)
  • Sentinels: Jaguar Nights (Doranna Durgin)
  • Sylvester (Georgette Heyer)
  • Not Without Her Family (Beth Andrews)
  • Prospero’s Daughter (Nancy Butler)
  • Overkill (Linda Castillo)
  • Whisper Kiss (Dragonfire #5) (Deborah Cooke)
  • Just the Sexiest Man Alive (Julie James)
  • Talk to Me (Jan Freed)
  • Bayou Moon (Ilona Andrews)
  • Unchained (Sharon Ashwood)
  • Another One Bites the Dust (Jennifer Rardin)
  • Winter’s Edge (Anne Stuart)
  • Scent of Darkness (Christina Dodd)
  • Untameable Rogue (Kelly Hunter)

I chose these books because I signed up for a couple of quarterly/seasonal reading challenges.  All the books above fit one or both of the challenges, and several will help me complete the some of the other challenges that I started earlier this year. I’m not going to set a high goal for this Read-a-thon. I hope to read at least two books. I’ve already started reading Bayou Moon, but I want to have that one finished before next week — but I’m leaving it on the list, just in case.

The two reading challenges I recently signed up for come from Shelfari and Good Reads groups. The groups have similar-sounding names: Readers of Romance (Shelfari); Romance Readers Reading Challenges (Good Reads). The Shelfari group does seasonal challenges, each season has a new list of criteria for books read during the time frame. The Good Reads group has several different challenges one can join, with varying time limits. I chose to do the “Read-the-Season” one: one book per letter in the word “Autumn” (title or author) and a book with “autumn” in the title.  I created separated pages for them here and here.

If September had 31 days, or if I had been more diligent, I would have finished three books in September instead of two. I managed to get one backlogged book review posted in September, but not much else. I recently started participating, again, in a couple of weekly memes. I’ve noticed that I usually get active in these things in September, and within a month or two, I’ve dropped out again. Let’s see if I can stay active a little longer.

2010 Books/Reviews

  • Northanger Abbey (Austen, Jane) — no review planned; ROR
  • In For a Penny (Lerner, Rose) — Countdown, New Author, Pub 2010, Year of Historical

The backlogged 2009 reviews posted:

What’s still pending:

  • Duel of Hearts
  • Three Bags Full
  • The Battle Sylph (McDonald, L. J.)
  • Magic Bleeds (Andrews, Ilona)
  • Secretive Stranger (Greene, Jennifer)
  • Winter Kiss (Cooke, Deborah)

Below is my status regarding the various challenges. Not much has changed. Thankfully Ms. Lerner’s book counted for several challenges.
