UPDATED

What: 2011 Whisper Stories in My Ear Challenge
When: 1 January – 31 December 2011
Who: Bewitched Bookworms
Rules: At least twelve audio books (basically one a month but more is perfectly acceptable and encouraged). Can be any length, any genre. Must post a review of the audio book somewhere (personal blog, Amazon, Good Reads, Shelfari, Audible, etc.). The review must clearly state that you’re reviewing the audio book, how many hours it was, etc. Visit the blog for more information and an example of a audio book review.

Also, the hosts plan to award badges throughout the year, based on the number of hours participants log (hence the importance of the length of the audio book). The levels are listed below:

100 hours: Whispering My Love
200 hours: Can’t Keep Quiet
300 hours: Singing It From The Mountain Tops
400 hours: Megaphone Shout

The will be monthly prizes, and those who sign up before January 1st will be entered in a drawing for an introductory account at Audible.com.

Addicted: 12 Audio Books
Obsessed: 20 Audio Books

(Teresa’s looking for ideas for monthly fun things do with the challenge — got one? Visit her blog and tell her about it)

~~ & ~~

Normally, I track challenges on the Master Challenge page, but I think I will track these differently.  I have to think about how.  In the meantime, this post will be the default tracker.  Audiobook challenges will be tracked here.

I created my own little button for audiobooks last month (though I do like the one the Bewitched Bookworms are using).  Here’s mine:

Mini Badge

These challenges are perfect for me, since I started listening to audiobooks on my commute. I already know what I want to read, since I’ve been concentrating on audio versions of books I’ve already read in the past.  Here’s some of the possibilities:

  • Jane Austen — Mansfield Park, Emma, and Persuasion — to meet my goal of reading Austen yearly
  • David Eddings — I’m listening to the first book in The Belgariad (5 books) now.  I don’t know if I’ll start the second book before the end of this year or not.  I also plan to listen to The Mallorean (5 books) and the two stand-alones that are connected to the series.
  • Georgette Heyer — not sure which books yet, but most likely something I’ve already read.
  • Connie Willis — To Say Nothing of the Dog and Doomsday Book (for sure)
  • Douglas Adams — The Hitch-Hiker series was a favorite books-on-tape set, but I haven’t heard them in ages (at least 15-20 years).

The list is tentative, based on availability from the library and/or credits at Audible. Who knows, I may have to listen to a new-to-me book/author once in awhile.

Two Audiobook Challenges for 2011 — 4 Comments

  1. Welcome to my Audio Book Challenge. I had no idea that there was another one out there. I love your button. I’m working on putting together some prizes for the participants so look for those. I look forward to seeing what you end up listening to.

    • I hope so too! I’m looking forward to hitting the hour goals and finding out (this time next year) just how many hours I’ve listened to in one year. 🙂
