Monthly Update – January 2011

partnerblogcareers

January

I’m off to a great start this year as far as the number of books read.  It’s been a long time since I completed five books in one month.  I didn’t listen to as many audiobooks I thought I would — I only managed  to listen to two.  I primarily listen to them on my way to and from work (commuting time is  about approximately 7 hours a week total).  I took some time off from work.   I think I could have squeezed in one more (Persuasion by Jane Austen, for example)  had I not been off.

Still behind on writing and posting of my reviews but, truth be told, I rather read more books per month than use that time to write posts.  Even so,  I did manage to get a total of five posts done: three were for books/audiobooks completed lasted year, and two for January reads (one book, one audio).  I will continue to keep track, but I won’t let it bother me as much.

I’ve been joining more and more reading challenges on Goodreads.com.  Originally, I had plan to track them all here, but I’ve decided that would be way too time consuming and would cut into reading time. I will still track the few that are listed under the “2011” tab for their duration. In my monthly update posts, I will indicate if a book counted towards those challenges, and I will also note if I’ve successfully completed the challenges or not when they end.

Something new I started around Christmas, and I’ve been good about doing every week so far, is a New Additions post.  I’ve seen various versions of this weekly report of what readers have gotten in their mailboxes, purchased from the library, etc.  My original plan was to make it a Sunday post, but lately I’ve been missing the mark.  A causal tally for January averaged out to a book a day.

Books Read:

Note: “Goodreads” means the book fit one or more of the challenges hosted by the various groups I joined. The link is to my tracking post on that site. “Personal” means the book fit one or more of the challenges I’m doing for myself (not hosted somewhere else). The link is to the master list under the “2011” tab.

Audiobooks:

Note: I will continue to count audiobooks toward “total pages read”, using the physical book’s page count. If I own a copy, the page number will be the page the story ends on (not counting any excepts, author’s notes, etc.). If I don’t,  I will get the page number from a on-line source (Amazon, Goodreads, etc).  Unless otherwise noted, the audiobooks count toward the two audiobook challenges only.

  • Queen of Sorcery (D. Eddings/C. Beierle) — (pgs. = 327) (12h, 44m)
  • Magician’s Gambit (D. Eddings/C. Beierle) – (pgs. = 305) (11h, 33m)

Monthly Update – January 2011 — 2 Comments

  1. Thanks! 🙂 I’ve been wanting to get back to reading four or five books a month. Now that I’m more or less settled into my new home, I think I’ll do better this year than last.

    Thanks for stopping by!
