Notes on a BookSometimes, the notes I take after reading a book are enough to further expand into some kind of review. Other times, I don’t take enough and/or wait too long to expand upon them. And then there are the times I don’t bother writing anything down immediately (thinking I might do so later), and end up having to spend time trying to remember what I liked/didn’t like. So, for those time when I fall too far behind or don’t have enough notes, I decided that I will just post what I have as “notes on” that particular book.

From Goodreads: If Lord Carroll had one wish, it was to see his lovely daughters Joia, Hollice, and Meredyth happily wed. The problem was finding three suitable beaus. However, ’twas Christmas, a time for surprises. Joia found a notorious rake coming to her rescue. Holly could not believe who was suddenly vying for her affection. And Merry won the heart of a brave but broken soldier. Not the best matches, perhaps. But if the season was truly magical, the Christmas Carrolls would indeed receive tidings of comfort and joy!

Comments: I bought this e-book a while ago. It’s not on my list for The Christmas Spirit Challenge, but I was looking for a quick read and it fit the bill. It’s been some time since – January 2011 – I’ve read this author. I do like her writing style and I have several more of her books on hand.

The story is told in four parts, but the parts are not stand-alone. I thought they were, but once I started reading it, I realized that most of the book happens in few months leading up to Christmas. The first three parts deal with each daughter’s trials in finding love and the fourth deals with an over-arching storyline that focuses on their parents. Because of the way the novel is set up, I felt that both Holly and Meredyth’s stories were rushed. I was surprised by Holly’s story and wished it could have been longer.

Despite my issue with the pacing, I really enjoyed the book. My favorite character was the butler and I really liked the earl, even with his madcap idea of marrying off all three daughters at once.
