UPDATE # 3
Title: Prospero’s Daughter
Author: Nancy Butler
Time Started: 2:00PM
Time Finished: 11:20PM
Number of Pages: 232
Breaks?: Yes. Two of them. 3:30PM to 4:45PM (dinner); 8:00PM to 9:30PM (attempted to get on-line)
First Line: He was going to have to kill Ronald Palfry.
It’s a good thing I hadn’t planned to be on-line much this time. Thanks to the spastic nature of my internet connection, I couldn’t get back on-line since the previous update.
I’ve finished two books so far. I’ve decided not to start a third book. Instead, I’ll just pick up where I left off with Bayou Moon. I’ll see if I can read a chapter or two before turning in for the night.
And though I wasn’t on-line much, I do appreciate the cheerleaders stopping by. 🙂

UPDATE #1: Hour 1 Challenge
Where are you reading from today? The couch in the living room.
3 facts about me … I moved to Kentucky in July. I work for the US Army. I have a large collection of book covers.
How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? Fifteen books
Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? At least two books, but I think I will end up reading three.
If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time? It definitely helps if you plan ahead. Nothing major: handy snacks, easy-to-make meals or delivery.
=============================
Initial Post: This year, I’m more prepared. I’ve moved into my own place (again, yay!), so there shouldn’t be any interruptions from other people (unless they call); I’ve stocked up on snacks and beverages; I’m scheduling a pizza delivery for dinner! I’ve written out a schedule, too: when to take breaks, when to stop for meals, etc. I will post updates, as I can, in this post. My internet connection is still spazzy, so. . .it might not even be up during the time I allotted for updates.
A few of things:
- I haven’t finished Bayou Moon, but I’m putting it aside and start with a fresh book, preferably shorter.
- The most recent update will be on top, so you don’t have to scroll down to see if I’ve updated since last time, and I’ll number the update.
- My goal: Two books (not counting Bayou Moon)
- My list of potential reads can be found here.
Happy Reading!!
Great looking list – have a fun readathon! 🙂
It looks like you have a great plan for the day! Happy Reading!
(Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:
Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.
By the power of every word on the page
May your book be delightful,
As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.
Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
May no obstacle impede
Your day filled with books.
For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.
Enjoy the readathon – I don’t have too many distractions as well today since my kids are with my parents, it’s just me the internet and books!
Good luck!
You seem to have it well under control! Enjoy the reading.
great steamy cover on that one! I have a harlequin in my tbr pool too, I may have to go for it soon! Good luck and have a wonderful day!
What a great planner you are!
Lack of distractions is a strong point in your favor. Good luck! Hang in there.
I’m working on my fourth book, all short, all good.
The party’s starting to pop
And you’re already having fun.
Don’t let the momentum stop
And get some reading done!
185 pages is FANTASTIC!! Great job.
1, 2, 3, 4
Hope your book isn’t a bore
5, 6, 7, 8
And your readathon is going great!
lol, gotta love that first line/quote! Wonder why only ‘near’??? 😉
enjoy!
A thought to mull over: “The best of a book is not the thought which it contains, but the thought which it suggests; just as the charm of music dwells not in the tones but in the echoes of our hearts.” — John Greenleaf Whittier
Enjoy your reading!
Give me an R
Give me an E
Give me an A
Give me a D
What does it spell? READ!!
Keep up the great reading! You’re doing great! The great books will no doubt help til late! :o)
